María del Carmen quarry (Ultimoreo)
SAMACA 49 comes from the María del Carmen quarry, located in the locality of Ultimoreo (La Baña), within the municipality of Encinedo, province of León (Spain). It is an open-pit operation belonging to the Rozadais formation of the Upper Ordovician (approximately 455–435 million years ago). The quarry has been in operation since the 1980s.
This is a grey slate with a medium grain and a rustic texture. It features a medium degree of fissility, ensuring good homogeneity and reliable performance in roofing.
