Samaca 39

Os Foios quarry (O Alto da Cova)

Samaca 39 comes from the Os Foios quarry, located in O Alto da Cova at an altitude of approximately 1,700 meters, within the municipality of Carballeda de Valdeorras, Ourense. Its extraction began in the 1960s and is carried out as an open-pit operation. It belongs to the Rozadais formation from the Upper Ordovician period (approximately 455-435 million years ago).

It is a gray slate with a fine grain, a marked texture, and a rustic appearance. It stands out for its high resistance to transverse and longitudinal bending, ensuring exceptional homogeneity and performance.

Grades and Selections

MH

Rigorously selected pieces based on strict criteria for tolerance, thickness, texture, and flatness, with special attention to the region and intended application. The MH selection slate is designed and manufactured to meet roofing regulations.

STD

Production based on the requirements of current regulations, with more flexible selection criteria than the MH category. Careful sorting using traditional methods is recommended. This selection is highly valued by experts, as it allows them to showcase their know-how while making the most of the material’s qualities and the art of installation.

NATUR

A selection that prioritizes cost-effectiveness in slate offerings. These pieces require careful classification and installation
